Intense grief self-assessment to evaluate your symptoms with a free personalised counsellor review

The questionnaire below is for you if you’re feeling overwhelmed and experiencing grief and loss-related symptoms. This quick and simple assessment will help you determine the level of your suffering and if there may be more about it.

Don’t hesitate to take the first step in seeking support. You may fear that your concerns must be more serious about seeking help, but this questionnaire will help you understand the situation better.

It is essential to remember that this questionnaire is not a diagnostic tool but a helpful initial step in your journey towards healing.

After you complete the questionnaire, we will need your contact information, as the results cannot be automatically scored.

A counsellor will review your results at no cost (generally valued at $100) and send them to you by email. Rest assured, we do not use your email for spam, and you can unsubscribe from further communication.

Are you sad and in grief? Would you like to transform your loss into peace?

Grief is a natural reaction to loss when something or someone you care about is taken away. This emotional anguish can be overpowering, resulting in a wide range of complex and unexpected feelings such as astonishment, anger, disbelief, remorse, and deep grief. Grief may also impact your physical health, interfering with your sleep, appetite, and capacity to think correctly. However, it is important to acknowledge that these feelings are natural. In addition, the level of grieving frequently corresponds to the severity of the loss.

Grief is not confined to the loss of a loved one. Loss has many forms, such as the end of a relationship, a decline in health, job loss, financial instability, miscarriage, retirement, the death of a pet, the severe illness of a loved one, the loss of a friendship, and the loss of safety after trauma. Even the sale of the family home can be experienced as a loss. Sometimes subtle life changes, such as moving away from home, graduating from college, or changing jobs, can create a sense of loss, and you may experience grief. Regardless of the loss, it is critical to acknowledge that the feelings felt during sorrow are natural.

Many variables influence how you grieve, including your personality and coping style, life experience, faith, and the significance of the loss to you. There is not “right way” to grief and it is highly personal.

Healing from grief and loss is a process that cannot be hastened. Our caring counsellors at Act Right Now Counselling Services can help you navigate this journey and assist you.

Are you affected by Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD)?

Prolonged grief disorder is marked by continuous and deep yearnings for the deceased, preoccupation with thoughts of the deceased, or the circumstances surrounding the death. For at least a month, these symptoms recur regularly throughout the day and can cause severe distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important parts of an individual’s life.

The symptoms may be different based on one’s age, gender, or culture. Overall, PGD is more common in women. Loss from ongoing disasters, like the COVID-19 pandemic, can also lead to PGD.

At Act Right Now Counselling Services, we offer specific help for PGD, such as Prolong Greif therapy (PGT)  developed by the Columbia University Center for Prolonged Grief as well a PGD tailored Internal Family System Therapy, and ACT for grief and loss.

Myths and facts about grief and grieving

Fact: Trying to ignore your pain or keep it from surfacing will only make it worse in the long run. For real healing, it is necessary to face your grief and actively deal with it.

Fact: Feeling sad, frightened, or lonely is a normal reaction to loss. Crying doesn’t mean you are weak. You don’t need to “protect” your family or friends by putting on a brave front. Showing your true feelings can help them and you.

Fact: Crying is a normal response to sadness, but it’s not the only one. Those who don’t cry may feel the pain just as deeply as others. They may simply have other ways of showing it.

Fact: There is no specific time frame for grieving. How long it takes differs from person to person. However if you have intense grief and problems functioning that don’t improve within six months or a year it is advised to speak to a specialist or your GP. Read more below about Prolong Grief Disorder.

Fact: Moving on means you’ve accepted your loss—but that’s not the same as forgetting. You can move on with your life and keep the memory of someone or something you lost as an important part of you. In fact, as we move through life, these memories can become more and more integral to defining the people we are.

Convenient Online Counselling

Online counselling, often known as teletherapy or cyber counselling, is a therapy in which clients contact mental health practitioners through the internet.

Research conducted at the University of Zurich analysed the efficacy of internet therapy over traditional face-to-face therapy for individuals with depression and anxiety. According to the study, 57% of patients who finished online counselling were depressed-free, compared to 42% of those who got traditional face-to-face counselling.

Let’s see some reasons why online counselling is better than face-to-face: expenses for transportation, parking, babysitting, and other miscellaneous costs can be eliminated. Online counselling also provides greater flexibility in scheduling, as appointments can be made anytime and anywhere with an internet connection. Additionally, online counselling can offer a sense of anonymity and comfort for those who may feel more at ease communicating through a screen rather than in person.
